About the Foundation. The Gjon Mili Foundation, a program of the Albanian Institute, preserves and advances the legacy of Gjon Mili, a pioneering Albanian born photographer and filmmaker whose experiments with light, motion, and time reshaped modern visual culture.

The Foundation maintains a growing archive of photographs, films, publications, and related materials documenting Mili’s work in stroboscopic and motion photography, as well as his collaborations across art, film, and performance. The archive supports research and informs exhibitions, publications, and public programs.

Established to preserve Mili’s archive and celebrate his legacy of creativity and innovation, the Foundation supports artistic inquiry and collaboration, fostering dialogue across photography, film, performance, dance, and visual art while ensuring the continued relevance of his work for future generations.
